Mission

The mission of the AVTSE is to provide resources that elevate the skills, knowledge and professionalism of veterinary technicians in the education profession by igniting and maintaining passion throughout their educational career. 

Credentialing Exam Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to sit for the credentialing exam, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to both education and technical proficiency in veterinary technology. The following criteria outline the necessary qualifications:

General Requirements:

      • Minimum Points Required: Applicants must accrue at least 20 points from the below categories related to education and technical skills.
      • Time Frame: Points in categories e through i, and l/m must be earned within the four (4) years immediately before the application submission.
      • Credentialing Timeline: Applications can be submitted no sooner than four years after earning a veterinary technician credential or any other specialty credential (e.g., VTS, CVPM, LAT, rehabilitation certificate, etc.).
      • Category Representation: Points must be distributed across at least four (4) different categories, with no more than 10 points earned from any single category.

Point Allocation
10 Points Minimum from Categories A-I:

  1. Primary Author of a Textbook: A textbook used for the education of veterinary health care team members: 10 points

  2. Chapter Contributor/Co-Author of a Textbook: In a textbook used for the education of veterinary health care team members: 5 points

  3. Primary Author of a Textbook on Learning or Education: 5 points

  4. Chapter Contributor/Co-Author of a Textbook on Learning or Education: 5 points

  5. Author of a Peer-Reviewed Journal Article on Learning or Education: 5 points

  6. Author of a Peer-Reviewed Journal Article on Technical Skills related to veterinary technology: 3 points

  7. Primary Author/Co-Author of an Approved CE Course (jurisdictional, RACE, or equivalent) for veterinary staff: 2 points per CEU of the course

  8. Presenter of an Approved Seminar (45-90 minutes) on Learning or Education: 3 points

  9. Presenter of an Approved Seminar (45-90 minutes) on Technical Topics related to veterinary technology: 2 points

10 Points Minimum from Categories J-M:

    1. Bachelor, Master's, or Doctorate Degree in Education: 15 points

    2. Completion of a College-Level Credit Course in Education: 5 points

    3. Attendance at a Seminar (45-90 minutes) Related to Learning or Education: 3 points

    4. Attendance at a Seminar (45-90 minutes) on Technical Topics related to veterinary technology: 2 points
